Grief is a difficult subject in a culture that often asks us to move quickly toward positivity, healing, and letting go. Facing Grief: On Life, Loss & Honoring What Remains is an exhibition by artist Karyn Alzayer that invites us to sit with complicated emotions and consider the many ways we live with loss.

Working with natural materials, found objects, and using intricate filigree, Alzayer transforms familiar elements in unexpected ways. Her compelling mixed media works give visual form to conflicting experiences that can be difficult to express—grief and joy, love and absence, asking us to balance the enduring connections we carry with us against the quiet process of making meaning from what has been lost.

Her work encourages us to pause, reflect, and recognize that sorrow and beauty can exist side by side. Grief does not follow a simple path. It asks us to hold many truths at once and to find ways to move forward while honoring what remains.
